God Has Spoken Once…
“Psalm 62:11 11God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.”
One of the best conversations I had with my beloved Bishop R.T. Jones, Sr. was when I asked him, “How do I know what God wants me to do?” and “How do I follow HIS leading?” Bishop Jones’ response was simple and just enough for me to handle at that age. He simply said, “Most likely it will be something YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO.”
When I have weighty decisions to make, I was taught to take it to the Lord in prayer and wait for Him to answer. The problem with this is: the answer Bishop Jones gave me 30 years ago, STILL rings true! When God leads me to do something I feel is too big, or too hard, or that I don’t feel I am equipped for; I usually go back and pray again! (Don’t judge…you probably do too.) I ask, “God is this you? Are you sure? “… And then I wait some more.
One morning in my prayer time, I asked God AGAIN to lead me in a very weighty decision that would have far reaching effects. As I was praying, the Lord asked me a question. He asked “Am I God of ambiguity.” You see, I didn’t like the answer I received in prayer and in the word the first time. I was hoping THIS TIME, the answer would be different and to my liking.
Ambiguity is defined as inexactness, vagueness, or uncertainty. The answer to that question (is God ambiguous?) came for me as I read Psalm 62:11; David says, “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongs unto God.” In other words, David was telling us that when God speaks, He need only say it once and it reverberates (or echoes) in our spirits. When HE speaks, we will KNOW it! To continue to ask, question or rebel is a waste of time, resources and energy.
That thing that God wants you to do….. YES, the hard things. Stop asking HIM is HE sure, and start asking HIM for strategy to get it done for HIS glory.
You are so loved!
